Hillsborough Castle is Northern Ireland's Royal residence and one of the island's finest historic houses. Here's what you need to know before visiting.
Hillsborough Castle is a magnificent Georgian country house in the charming village of Hillsborough, County Down — the official Northern Ireland residence of the British Royal Family and the working base of the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
History Hillsborough Castle was built in the 1770s for the Hill family, Marquesses of Downshire. In 1925 it was purchased by the state and became the official Government House of Northern Ireland.
